How to Sell Your RV Quickly During Peak Season
Currently, my family is in the process of getting our RV ready to sell so we can get another rig that better suits our needs. The reason for selling now? It’s peak season. There’s no better time than peak season to sell your RV—but while demand is high, so is competition. To sell quickly and get the price you want, you’ll need more than luck.
Luckily, I know some tricks. In this guide you’ll find proven strategies to prep, price, market, and close the deal on your RV quickly during peak season. Let’s dive in.
Understand the Timing of Peak Season
Peak RV buying season typically runs from early spring through summer. For us, it seems to start in early spring and run through fall, but depending on your region, the sweet spot might differ a bit:
- Southern states: February to May
- Northern states: March to August
- Mountain/western states: April to September
You see, demand is driven by weather and travel plans, meaning the time of year when the weather is best in your area is the time of year you’ll want to sell. That said, many buyers shop early so they can use the RV all season. This means that waiting until fall might be a mistake.
Research the Market and Price Strategically
Nothing slows down a sale faster than the wrong price. List it too high, and buyers skip over you entirely. Too low, and you leave money on the table. Getting your price right can be tricky, but I like to use the tips below to help:
- Check comparable listings: Look at RV Trader, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and local dealers. Note all prices for RVs of similar make, model, year, and condition.
- Adjust for condition: Is your rig really well-maintained? Is it well-used? Have you upgraded anything?
- Consider mileage: An RV with a lot of miles is not going to fetch as much as an RV with low miles. Price accordingly.
- Factor in local demand: Keep in mind that prices will vary regionally. Make sure the price you choose lines up with local demand.
When we need to sell a rig quickly, we will price slightly below market average. This will sometimes spark a bidding war during peak season and will always ensure we sell your RV soon after listing. Meanwhile, an RV that is priced too high may sit for weeks.

Clean and Detail Your RV Thoroughly
I fully understand that cleaning is no fun. This is the step we’re about to begin ourselves, and I am not looking forward to it. That said, cleaning the RV is the single most important step. Even minor dirt or odors can scare off buyers, and cleaning is an inexpensive and relatively easy way to make your rig more inviting.
Not sure what steps to take to get your RV into sellable shape? Consider the following tasks.
Exterior
- Wash and wax the entire exterior.
- Clean the roof.
- Scrub wheels and undercarriage.
- Clean awnings and repair any tears.
Interior
- Vacuum carpets and upholstery.
- Mop hard floors.
- Wipe down all surfaces, including cabinets and counters.
- Scrub the bathroom and kitchen thoroughly.
- Empty and sanitize holding tanks.
- Remove personal items and clutter.
- Deodorize to remove any musty or pet odors.
Make Minor Repairs and Upgrades
No, you absolutely don’t need to remodel your RV to sell it fast. That said, it doesn’t hurt to fix any obvious flaws. This will help make the RV more appealing to those who want to hit the road quickly after buying. After all, not many people want to buy a project.
Some tasks you may want to tackle:
- Replace burned-out bulbs.
- Fix leaky faucets.
- Lubricate squeaky hinges.
- Replace broken blinds or window screens.
- Patch small upholstery tears.
- Make sure appliances work.
If you can afford it, small cosmetic upgrades can make your RV stand out from the crowd. These might include LED lighting, new bedding, or new hardware for the cabinetry.
Pro tip: Keep receipts for recent repairs. Buyers love to see maintenance records—they show you cared for the RV.

Take Professional-Quality Photos
Remember that the photos included on your listing are your first showing. Bad photos mean buyers scroll past your listing without a second thought. For this reason, I always take my time making sure I get the best photos of my RV with the best lighting possible.
I recommend doing the following to ensure you have top-notch photos to include with your listing:
- Shoot during daylight with natural light.
- Clean before shooting. Clutter is a big no-no.
- Use a wide-angle lens or your smartphone’s wide mode to properly show the space.
- Capture the exterior from multiple angles.
- Photograph every single room and space, making sure to include photos of storage space.
- Highlight unique features.
- Be honest and include any flaws so buyers aren’t surprised.
Write a Detailed, Honest Listing
When I’m shopping for an RV, I absolutely hate vague listings. I want to know exactly what you have so I know whether it will suit my needs before I take the time to come look at it. If the information I need is not included in the listing, I’m likely to scroll right past it.
Make sure to include…
- Year, make, model, and length
- Engine type (gas/diesel) and mileage
- Sleeping capacity
- Number of slide-outs
- Major features
- Recent maintenance or upgrades
- Condition—be honest!
- Asking price and whether it’s negotiable
- Your contact info
Be Responsive and Easy to Work With
Keep in mind that peak season buyers are ready to buy right away. That said, they likely also have a multitude of options to choose from. If you’re slow to reply or hard to reach, they’ll move on.
Offer multiple contact options including text, email, or phone calls, and make sure to respond to calls and messages promptly. Schedule viewings as soon as possible and be flexible with timing—after work, evenings, weekends. Of course, you also want to be friendly and professional.
Make Negotiation Smooth
I don’t love it because it makes me a nervous wreck, but negotiation is part of selling any big-ticket item. During peak season, you have more leverage as a seller, but if you want to sell your RV quickly, you do need to be realistic.
Tips:
- Know your bottom line before you list.
- Decide in advance if your price is firm or if you’re open to offers.
- Don’t take lowball offers personally.
- Offer small extras to close the deal, such as full propane tanks, new sewer hoses, and delivery within reason.
- Be polite, even if you turn down an offer. After all, buyers might come back.
Not sure how to respond to low offers? You might say something like, “I appreciate the offer. I’m asking $39,500 because of the low mileage and excellent condition. I’d be willing to go to $38,500 if we can close this weekend.”
Advertise in Multiple Places
Obviously, the more places your RV is visible, the more buyers you’ll reach. I like to list in as many places as possible. Below are some of the options you have for listing your rig.
Online options:
- Facebook Marketplace
- RV Trader
- Craigslist
- eBay Motors
Offline options:
- Bulletin boards at campgrounds or RV parks
- Word of mouth
- Local RV dealers
- Consignment lots

Have All Paperwork Ready
Serious buyers expect a smooth transaction. You don’t want to lose a deal because you’re scrambling for paperwork. This is why I make sure to gather everything we need to sell before we even list an RV.
This includes:
- Clear title (or lien release from lender)
- Bill of sale (check local requirements)
- Maintenance records
- Warranty transfer information (if applicable)
- Owner’s manuals
Yes, peak season is the best time to sell your RV, but demand alone won’t do all the work. If you use the tips above, you’ll stand out in a crowded market, attract serious buyers, and sell your RV quickly—often at a better price than you expected!
