When Is The Best Time To Buy An RV?

Want to buy an RV to take you on adventures across the country? We don’t blame you. Owning an RV is a fantastic thing that gives you the ability to travel freely wherever you see fit.

Of course, you probably do want to make sure you’re paying a fair price for your home-on-wheels. This brings us to the common question: “When is the best time to buy an RV?”

Honestly, if you ask us, depending on the situation, pretty much any time could be the best time to buy an RV. After all, the freedom that comes with an RV purchase is pretty spectacular. That said, you will find that buying during certain seasons will come with additional perks.

In our opinion, right now is a great time to buy if you’re looking for these added benefits. Here’s why.

The thrill may be over for some RVers, but there loss could be your gain!

Pandemic Buyers Are Selling

The thrill may be over for some RVers, but their loss could be your gain!

When the pandemic first hit, many folks with wanderlust were looking for ways to get out of their homes and continue to travel as safely as possible. An RV presented a way to see the country while also staying contained in your own little bubble. For this reason, RVing became more popular than ever before and an astounding 483,672 RVs were sold in 2021 alone. That’s a 33.8% increase over 2020 RV sales.

Now, as the pandemic is over and other forms of travel are becoming more available, new RV sales are down about 49%. Those who purchased trailers and motorhomes purely for pandemic travel? Well, they are starting to sell.

What does this mean for you? Well, it means you might just find an extremely gently used RV that could serve you and your family for years to come. It also means this might just be the best time to buy a camper.

Prices Are Dropping

Another thing that makes this the best time to buy an RV? The dropping prices. We all know the rules of supply and demand and that prices will go up when demand is high and drop lower as demand drops off.

With that 49% decrease in demand we mentioned earlier, RV salespeople are looking for ways to move inventory and this is driving prices down across the market. This means that whether you want to buy a brand new rig or a used RV, you are going to pay much less than you would have if you had bought in 2021 or 2022.

This, coupled with the forecasts claiming a mere 3% cost-of-living increase in the next year tell us that buying in 2023 or early 2024 is likely a good call in terms of budgeting.

You Can Get Away on a Budget

While the cost-of-living is likely to go up just 3% in 2024, the 2023 COLA was an astounding 8.7%. This huge jump has left many scrambling to save money, even now, as things begin to even out. Obviously, if there is a way to cut costs without cutting all the fun out of your life, that is the way to go. We think buying an RV is a great investment for just this reason.

Traveling in an RV is the best way to travel on a budget. Camping is far cheaper than staying in a hotel room, and while gas is expensive, if you explore close to home, you’ll still be spending far less than you would on a plane ticket. Using your RV kitchen to cook your meals saves over eating out, and choosing free outdoor activities means no money spent on attractions.

Yes, a little bit of planning can make RV travel an incredibly affordable way to get away more often and without spending a bundle, something we can all appreciate right now.

And Without Concern for Your Health

Yes, the pandemic is over. That said, COVID and other illnesses are still out there, and many of those with health concerns still feel nervous about taking plane rides and staying in hotel rooms. If you are one of these individuals, RV travel is still the safest and best way for you to travel.

Nobody wants to spend their whole life sitting around waiting for germs to disappear. Why not buy a trailer or motorhome of your own so you can get back out there and start exploring the world without worrying about your health?

Clearly, there are plenty of reasons why now is the best time to buy an RV, and we’re sure we could come up with many more reasons to jump in right now rather than waiting around. If you’re ready to buy, just do it! Need help getting started? That’s what we’re here for.

RVing offers an opportunity to not only stay within your budget, but also gives you control over who and how you spend your time!
