Ah, the crisp fall air will soon be upon us! A season that’s all about pumpkins, scarecrows and hot chocolate has a deeper celebration for us RVers. Fall RVing brings cooler temps, so outdoor activities are much more enjoyable, and with less bugs in most conditions. Brisk fall nights are perfect for S’mores around the campfires after a star-filled hike.

With Autumn just around the corner for most of us, this article is being shared just in time to give practical advice as to what is needed in preparation for the fall RV road trips. Here are some top RV fall essentials.

Around the Campfire

For those who prefer cooking over the open flame of a campfire, consider these fall RV campfire meals that KOA shared:

  • Hobo Pies
  • Cinnamon rolls on a stick
  • Campfire Chili
  • Baked spiced apples
  • Fall foil packets

Other favorites are timeless, such as beans and taters and BBQ pulled pork. Of course, no camping trip can be complete with an evening of S’mores. Campers aged 8-80 all appreciate the gooey goodness of a melted S’mores sandwich, while sitting around the campfire.

Around the Picnic Table

For the RVers who love to cook but need more food storage space during RV outings, consider this product. The Freedom Fridge Electric Cooler & Warmer might be the answer, as it does the job of a fridge, ice box, and food warmer. With a lot of space for food storage, and no ice required, foods can be stored in temps as low as 32 degrees or warmed as high as 149 degrees.

With a handle and wheels, transporting is also an easy task. So, for your next fall RV outing, consider adding this temperature-controlled ‘survival trunk’ with you.

Around the Grill

Matching the fall weather, these grill spice blends will perfectly complement the burgers and/or steaks.  The five spices are:

  • Amber – classic smoky-sweet barbecue in a jar
  • Izak – The rich, favors of harissa, are captured in a coarse blend
  • Moruno – Rich, earthy cumin and floral saffron, finished with a subtle-sweet pepperiness
  • Pierre Poivre – This expert combination of eight coarsely ground peppercorns balances citrus, heat, floral notes, and a bit of sweetness
  • Shabazi – Inspired by zhug, the classic Yemenite condiment, this bright blend combines cilantro leaves, green chili, garlic, and lemon for a fresh hit of heat.

Basic veggie packs can be grilled, as well as ears of corn, as a good side for the burgers or steak.

While on the Trails

Spending time out on the nature trails is great during this time of year! There’s a briskness in the air that lungs really appreciate! But just because the temps are cooler doesn’t mean your water intake should slow down from the summer intake numbers. Drinking more water during the fall is important because it’s easy to become dehydrated during the cooler months, too.

Also, it’s important to point out with fall comes less sun-lit hours. Bringing along some extra headlamps or portable lanterns (more on that below) is always important.

Layered Outerwear

Mother Nature can never just set a temp and leave it there; the high for the day always fluctuates several times during the day it seems. Adding some layers to the wardrobe is always a great solution. For the hikers, consider some comfy ripstop trail pants and lightweight hoodies for men and women; they haven’t forgotten kids, either.

Lounging Outdoors

With such refreshing temps during the fall, spending as much time outdoors is ideal for many. Whether it’s napping in a portable hammock with a travel pillow, lounging in an outdoor loveseat camp chair with cupholders, or manning the portable grill, these products are much needed for comfort and ease and can be found at Back Country.

After Hours

Once the sun goes down, the outdoor vibe doesn’t have to end. Light up the night with one or more of these lighting options and continue to enjoy the brisk fall air.

The waterproof, solar powered, portable solar lantern you never knew you needed is now a must-have for all RVers. Perfect whether placed on a picnic table, secured by a tree branch or carried during a night hiking adventure, the SoLantern Air features 10 LED lights to keep your path lit.

Providing light for up to 50 hours and serving as a power bank for cell phones or other USB devices, this multi-use product is a great addition to fall RV adventures.

Consider headlamps that are great for runs or walks down the trails, before sunrise or at dusk/after sunset. This brand offers a  lightweight headlamp that tilts, that offers a front red light and is rechargable.

This two-person hammock from Eagle’s Nest Outfitters is a great way to star gaze after sundown. Let the kids and/or the fur babies stretch out on an oversized (50” X 72”) eco travel blanket by Coalatree.

For Too Much Crispiness in the Air

During the times that fall might be too much, keep these items on hand during outings.

  • Snuggly blankets
  • a hoodie
  • rainboots
  • a Smore’s Kit
  • fire starting kit
  • Bug Spray
  • Sunscreen

Standard items to be included in every trip, every season include the first aid kit, extra batteries, list of medications, emergency phone numbers and the locations and numbers of each location you will stay at for a day or two, or ten.

Always check the forecast for your destination a day or two before heading out and make sure you have packed appropriately for the weather. And, as always, make sure your rig is ready for the environment you are heading to as well.

So, get these items together and get rolling! Take in a national park this fall or find a small town for a relaxing vibe. No matter your destination, fall is a great time to get out of the house and into the RV.
