How to Determine the Market Value of Your RV in 2026

There are several ways to determine the market value of your RV in 2026, some are easier than others and some are more accurate, but all methods will require a full knowledge of the elements of your RV that will impact the price, like brand, make, model, age, milage, and maintenance.  You can access an on-line Bluebook for RVs, or do your own research using online publications like RV Trader or you can tap into the expertise and knowledge of industry professionals who are actively working in the used RV market every day.

Blue Book for RVs

We are all familiar with the Kelley Blue Book used in the auto industry to determine auto values but in the RV world it gets a little more complicated.  RV valuations are like a cross between the real estate market and the auto industry.  The residential features of an RV are vastly more complex than the features of automobiles making each RV more unique and making it harder to generalize the value in a publication like the Kelley Blue Book. However, JD Power has endeavored to do just that.

If you can answer all their questions, provide your contact information, and pay a fee you can get the value of your RV.  However, this information comes from a vast database that has been assembled over the years and it makes one wonder how accurate it is in these current market conditions.  Out of date data is probable worse than no data at all, because it misleads people and gives them confidence that they have good information when, in fact, they do not.

Do Your Own Research

Another way to determine the value of your RV in 2026 is to do your own research in RV publications like RV Trader.  These publications represent the most comprehensive collection of RVs for sale on any given day.  You can assume the information is current and accurate, so you can research RVs that are just like your RV, the same make, model, year, floor plan and features.

There may be one or more RVs that are exactly like yours and you can see what the asking price is for those RVs to determine approximately what your RV is worth.  However, determining value this way is problematic like deciding what your house is worth by comparing it to other houses on Zillow or Redfin.

The comparison is to the list (or asking) price not the “sold for” price which could be higher but in most cases will be lower than the list price.  And if there is only one or two other RVs like you’re for sale, the data set is too small to accurately reflect the whole market. If you find one other rig in RV Trader that is exactly like your RV and the asking price is $150,000 how do you know if this is just what the other seller wants to sell the RV for or if his asking price is a real reflection of what both of your RVs are worth, in today’s market?

If there are several RVs just like yours and the prices are clustered together around a common selling price, that might be a fairly good indicator of what your RV is worth, but still these prices are just what several other RV sellers thought their RVs were worth.

In addition to the price associated with other RVs exactly like yours there is the issue of different but comparable brand RVs that satisfy most buyer’s expectations, so those rigs are competing for the same market share as your RV.  And how do you factor in the price of those RVs into you determination of the value of your RV.

For example, you might be trying to determine the value of your 2019 Tiffin Allegro Bay but Newmar Bay Star RVs and other brand RVs fit into that same niche.  So, unless a buyer is shopping specifically for the Tiffin brand these other brand RVs in that same niche will be attractive to a buyer and should be factored into your RV valuation research.

A dissimilar RV that could be in your RVs niche might even be a different style like a travel trailer or 5th wheel that has most of the same features, benefits, and creature comforts of your motorhome but these RVs might have a more competitive price because they are towed not drivable.  The lower prices of towable RVs with similar livable spaces have a deflating impact on the value of motorhome in 2026 and it can not be ignored.

Doing your own research seems simple enough when you’re just looking for exact matches to your RV but when you have to consider all the similar but not exact matches and even different styles like fifth wheel trailers cutting into the motorhome market, and all the macro and micro economic impacts on value, doing your own research becomes a Rubik’s Cube of valuation.  When you have adjusted the value for one variable other variables become even more sckewed.  Finally, when doing your own research with RV Trader you are only seeing the asking price not the “sold for” price which will undoubtedly be different from the asking price.

Industry Experts

There is only one viable way around the problem of the disparity between the asking price and the “sold for” price, if you don’t feel comfortable with old data bases like that offered by JD Power.  I mentioned in the beginning of this article that there are easier and more reliable ways to determine the value of your RV in 2026.  That being said, the best way is to lean on industry experts and to trust their inside knowledge of how the peer-to-peer market is pricing RVs today.

National Vehicle staff are those professionals and they will happily provide you with a custom valuation for your specific and unique RV for free.  They have access to the “sold for” prices for a huge number of RVs, they work in the peer-to-peer RV market every day, and they have their thumb on the macro-economic variables, like gas prices and interest rate changes and know how those factors are impacting RV values in real time.  Of course, they have access to JD Power data but they don’t stop there.  They do their own comprehensive research to determine each RVs actual value and they share that with you.

What you choose to do with that knowledge is up to you.  Perhaps you want to be informed before negotiating a trade-in with a dealer, or you’re getting ready to sell your RV in the private marketplace but you need to know it’s value before listing it for sale.  National Vehicle can help with the listing and sales processes, as well, and selling your RV privately rather than using it as a trade-in could result in as much as a 15% to 30% greater sales price.

There’s a hard way, an easy way, and an efficient way to determine the value of your RV in 2026.  I recommend the easy efficient way by utilizing the experts at National Vehicle.  And the valuation is FREE.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between trade-in value and private sale value for an RV?

Trade in value is what a dealer will pay for your current RV if you have committed to buying a replacement RV from the dealer. The trade in amount will be applied to the overall cost for your new RV.  For the dealer, there’s money to be made on both sides of that transaction so they are highly motived to complete the transaction.  They want to sell you a new RV and take in your old one on trade so they can mark-it-up and resell it.  This is not universally true however, because dealers have specific criteria of what kind of RV they are willing to add to their inventory or what they will be able to sell to a wholesaler.  The age and condition of your RV might not fit the dealer’s criteria so they may not be willing to take your current RV as a trade-in, and their offer for your used RV will be substantially less than what you could get in the private market.  Even if your RV fits their profile and they are willing to take it in as a trade-in to reduce the cost of your new RV what they are willing to pay for your RV will be significantly less than what you could get in the private market, sometimes as much as 30% less.

Are used RV prices going down in 2026?

There are so many macro-economic forces impacting RV values it’s hard to sort out actual vehicle appreciation/depreciation from these other factors. For example, if you’re trying to sell a used diesel pusher in a region of the US that has diesel selling for over $7.00 a gallon, it’s going to be harder to sell it in 2026, under these conditions, than it was in 2025 when diesel was selling for around $4.00 per gallon. These outside forces, like gas and diesel prices and higher interest rates are negatively impacting demand which eventually impacts the overall used RV market.  Since value is ultimately determined by what people are willing to pay for an item and then all sales are amalgamated into a trend that is where this question of “Are used RV prices going down in 2026” gets answered and right now there are too many aggravating external forces to realistically answer the question.  However, on the individual level the most impactful criteria for determining the value of your RV are the condition and maintenance of the RV not the year and milage as many people presume or even gas prices and interest rates.

How many miles is too many on a used RV?

There is no set standard for maximum milage on an RV unless you are planning on financing it.  Many RV lenders set the milage limit at 100,000 for gas engines and 150,000 for diesel engines.  This is sort of an arbitrary figure because most RVs don’t even record milage, like fifth wheel trailers and travel trailers, but they do wear down with usage just like motorhomes, so the only gauge with a trailer is the age of the trailer and of course the visible condition and obvious maintenance or lack thereof.
